Catalog description

This is an advanced Hip Hop course that broadens the application and integration of students” technical proficiencies, expressivity, and musicality. The course emphasizes advanced level learning of complex and lengthy movement combinations to employ the polyrhythmic and polycentric nature of the form. Students further develop and express rhythmic and spatial awareness, dynamic range, and stylistic execution of technique. Students readily lead call and respond exercises, create improvisations, and participate in discussions and choreographic studies about the fusion styles of Hip Hop that span historical and contemporary jazz dance.
