Catalog description
Students learn how to prepare the fibers, operate a paper beater, pull and couch sheets, and utilize pre-made or handmade molds to create 2-D and 3-D works of art. Demonstrations, lectures, investigation of fiber characteristics, and hands-on studio work are core course components; alongside of critiques, group discussions, research, and information gathering assignments. Students are given the flexibility for in-depth exploration of selected techniques to gain fluency with the media and related terminology, to develop nuanced problem-solving abilities, and to engage in contemporary, conceptual conversation surrounding papermaking.
