Catalog description

This course provides experiences in contemporary sculpture making via the processes and content issues of casting. Students engage in modeling and fabricating forms to be transformed through translation of materiality by making of casts to achieve the content goals of the student artist. Discursive and studio practice examinations of origination, multiples and modularity, material transformation, and visual quotation are considered. This, alongside demonstrations, explorations and implementation of casting methodology form the core of studio activity. Mold making, multi-material fabrication, curation of found form and form modeling are used as sources for cast sculpture.
