Catalog description

Students are introduced to the use of a potter’s wheel in the creation of both functional and sculptural works of art. Initially, students develop functional objects while building a variety of skills that lead to individual, interpretative pieces. The properties of clay and glazes, as well as the types of surface treatments are addressed. Students learn about kiln design and operation as a critical part of finalizing their unique artworks. Through demonstrations, discussions, critiques and studio work students gain problem-solving skills in the making process while exploring contemporary approaches to ceramics.
