Economic Anthropology

This course provides an overview of key concepts and debates in economic anthropology. The course examines the interrelations between culture, economy and power, with attention to the diversity of economic systems and practices across various societies. The course takes an anthropological approach to the study of economic concepts such as gift and commodity; money, value, and wealth; credit and debt; globalization and development; migration and remittances. Through its ethnographic approach, it trains students to demonstrate critical thinking, curiosity, and reflexivity in their studies of diverse economic systems worldwide.
