Catalog description

This course covers African art from prehistory through the present. It includes work made by African artists, the period of European colonization, and the work of artists of the African Diaspora. The course explores the different styles and cultural influences on African artists, based on where they live and work. The course includes an examination of Indigenous art and the role of religions including Christianity, Islam, and Judaism in the history of African art.
