Moderate/Intensive Student teaching for Special Education students in moderate/intensive intervention. Prereq: 5737. This course is graded S/U. 4251 Classroom Management U 1½ This course focuses on current teaching practices in the field, with an emphasis on the examination of the research base of classroom management and social skill instruction. We focus on how to establish and maintain a positive learning environment. This course is intended for persons in professions related to education or service for children in the K-12 school system. Prereq: 5742. 4252 Intensive Interventions for Behavior Change U 1½ In this course, future teachers will learn how to assess student behavior to determine the function or reason behind the behavior, design function-based interventions that reduce challenging behavior and increase desired behavior, train team members and families to implement interventions with fidelity and monitor and adjust the intervention plan as needed. Prereq: 4251. 4350 Teaching Adaptive Behaviors, Life Skills, and Executive U 4½ Functioning Skills Evidence-based practices that will be emphasized in this course include systematic prompting, video prompting, video modeling, social narratives, cognitive behavioral therapy, and self- regulated strategy development. Students will not only be expected to develop intervention plans, but also to implement them with fidelity through role play. Prereq: 2251.
