Catalog description

Multilingual competence means navigating across languages to enable meaningful and productive communication. This course introduces the theory and practice of interpreting and translation from Spanish to English and vice versa. It will cover the essentials of oral, aural and written language use in a variety of text styles and situations and emphasize improving Spanish linguistic competencies. Students will analyze the cultural contexts in which the interpreting and translation activities occur to learn the technical and social complexities of providing interpreting and translation services the Hispanic/Latinx communities in the US. 3 Lecture hours. Taught in Spanish. Prerequisite: SP 206 or NU Placement Test score 536 or higher. Offered: Fall.
