Drugs and the Brain

Catalog description
Surveys how drugs are defined and classified, and how they act on physiological systems, particularly those of the brain, to affect bodily functions and mental abilities. Provides a foundation in brain anatomy and neurochemistry necessary for understanding drug actions, followed by fundamentals o pharmacology; what drugs do to the body, and what the body does to drugs. Attention will also be given to the societal and regulatory issues associated with drug development and use in general and with classes of drugs that are of current societal interest. Credit cannot be earned in PY 250 when the topic course "Drug on the Brain" as been taken. Offered: Fall.
