Population Health in Nursing Clinical

Catalog description

This 50 hour clinical course provides experiential learning in applying population health concepts across the lifespan in diverse community and clinical settings. With support from faculty and preceptors, students assume increasing responsibility for professional nursing roles focused on communication, collaboration, and partnership building with individuals, families, communities, and interprofessional teams. Students implement strategies that promote patient safety, support quality improvement, and strengthen system level safety practices, using evidence based and data driven approaches to enhance outcomes. Reflective practice is used to examine ethical issues, social determinants of health, and socioeconomic factors affecting care and equity. Learners participate in clinical decision making, resource management, and policy awareness activities that advance equitable, person centered care. Disaster preparedness and emergency response principles are applied in simulated and real world scenarios to prepare students for population level health challenges. Restriction: Nursing, Senior Level. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in all of NURS 316, NURS 316L, NR 211, NR 261. Corequisite: NURS 431. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
