Population Health in Nursing

Catalog description

Examines the professional nurse's role in population health across the lifespan, emphasizing communication, collaboration, and effective partnerships with individuals, families, communities, and interprofessional teams. Students explore how patient safety, a safe work environment, and quality improvement shape care delivery, applying data-driven and evidence-based strategies to enhance outcomes. Ethical decision-making, evidence-based practice, and the socioeconomic context of care-including social determinants of health, resource allocation, and equity - are integrated throughout. The course also introduces disaster preparedness and emergency response frameworks. Grounded in a person-centered approach, students develop leadership skills to promote health, prevent illness, and advance equitable care in diverse populations and settings. Restriction: Nursing, Senior level. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in all of NR 211, NR 261, NURS 316, NURS 316L. Corequisite: NURS 431L. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
