Catalog description

This 100 hour clinical course provides students with opportunities to apply advanced knowledge of the physiological, psychological, spiritual, developmental, and sociocultural dimensions of adult health across palliative and restorative settings. Students assume increasing responsibility for providing and coordinating holistic, person centered nursing care for adults experiencing complex and multisystem health deviations. Emphasis is placed on clinical judgment, interprofessional collaboration, evidence based practice, and compassionate presence. Through direct patient care in acute and long term care environments, leaners develop advanced psychomotor, communication, and leadership skills whiles integrating principles of safety, ethics, and quality improvement. Students demonstrate accountability, reflection, and advocacy consistent with professional nursing values, integrating ELNEC palliative care modules to promote excellence in end of life and restorative nursing. Requisite: Nursing, Senior level. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in all of NR 211, NR 261, NURS 316, NURS 316L. Corequisite: NURS 416. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
