Care of the Child/Childrearing Families

Catalog description

Examines nursing care for infants, children, adolescents, and families experiencing developmental, physiological, and psychosocial health challenges. Emphasis is placed on developmental and family centered care to promote wellness, manage acute and chronic conditions, and support optimal growth across the pediatric lifespan. Application of nursing science, developmental theory, and evidence based practice to analyze complex pediatric scenarios and evaluate safe, person centered, and culturally responsive interventions. Through simulation, case based learning, and linkage with the clinical, learners explore interprofessional collaboration, advocacy, and the nurse's role in optimizing child and family outcomes. The course also integrates ethical reasoning, leadership, quality improvement, reflective practice, and informatics to strengthen professional identity and enhance pediatric care quality and safety. Restriction: Nursing, Junior or higher. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in NURS 316, NURS 316L. Corequisite: NURS 341L. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
