Nursing Fundamentals Clinical

Catalog description

This 50 hour clinical course provides supervised opportunities to apply foundational nursing knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors in real world healthcare settings. Building on didactic and simulation learning, students integrate nursing and related sciences to deliver safe, person centered care to diverse populations. Through active patient care, students use the nursing process to assess health status, identify priorities, implement evidence informed interventions, and evaluate outcomes. They collaborate with patients, families, preceptors, and interprofessional team members to strengthen communication, teamwork, and relationship centered care. Emphasis is placed on safety and quality improvement practices such as infection prevention, medication safety, and risk reduction and on the use of healthcare technologies and informatics for documentation and decision making. Throughout the practicum, students demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, cultural humility, and accountability. Structured reflection and feedback support the development of clinical judgment, resilience, and professional growth as students progress toward autonomous practice. Restriction: Nursing, Sophomore or higher. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in NURS 206 and NURS 206S. Corequisites: NURS 217. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
