Fundamentals for Nursing Practice

Catalog description

Introduction to the fundamental knowledge, skills and values of professional nursing practice, emphasizing the integration of cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains. Through concept based instruction, discussion and case studies, students learn to apply the nursing process, integrate biological and behavioral sciences, and provide safe, patient centered care grounded in the QSEN competencies of quality, safety, evidence based practice and teamwork. Students explore the nurse's role in health promotion, disease prevention, communication, leadership and ethics while developing a professional identity consistent with nursing standards and values. This foundational course transitions from classroom to clinical learning by emphasizing clinical reasoning, accountability and reflection. Restriction: Nursing major, Sophomore or higher. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in all of NURS 206, NURS 206S. Corequisite: NURS 217S. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
