Health Assessment and Promotion Across the Lifespan

Catalog description
A study of age specific approaches to the assessment of human health. Focusing on the evaluation of health and functional status across the lifespan, students acquire knowledge of health assessment and health promotion in relation to comprehensive nursing care. Concepts are presented within the context of human growth and development, culture and environment, emphasizing the nurse's role in wellness promotion, risk reduction and disease prevention. Students learn to perform a comprehensive and holistic assessment of the patient through systematic collection, analysis and synthesis of health data from patients and secondary sources. Successful students will demonstrate proficiency in physical examination techniques on a laboratory partner at the end of the course. 3 Lecture hours per week. Prerequisites: Grade of C+ or higher in BI 215 and BI216. Corequisite: NURS 206S. Restriction: Nursing majors. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
