Bridging Theory and Practice in Academic Nursing Practicum

Catalog description

This practicum course provides graduate students with real world experience at the intersection of theory and practice in nursing education. Through hands on application of research, theory and evidence, students will align educational strategies with institutional and programmatic mission and goals while actively engaging in a nursing education practice setting. Key areas of focus include implementing change management strategies, developing policies for educational excellence, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and fostering professionalism and civility in academic settings. Students will design and execute a capstone project that addresses a significant issue in nursing education, applying learned concepts in practical environments. The course will also involve analyzing budgetary processes within academic nursing programs to ensure effective resource allocation and financial planning. By the end of the practicum, students will be equipped to lead innovative improvements in nursing education, employing evidence based practices and interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance the quality and impact of nursing education. This course include the completion of 200 practicum hours. Prerequisites: NR 723 and NR 723L. Grade of B or higher. Corequisite: NR 725. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
