Catalog description

An immersive internship or externship provides junior/senior-level nursing students the opportunity to integrate knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors in a real-world clinical setting under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. Emphasis is placed on developing clinical judgment, prioritization, interprofessional communication, and leadership at the point of care. Students will refine competencies in evidence-based practice, quality and safety, patient education, and professional role development as they transition from student to novice nurse. The experience supports synthesis of theoretical learning with clinical application across diverse patient populations and healthcare systems, preparing students for safe, independent nursing practice. Restrictions: Nursing major, Junior or higher. Prerequisite: NR 316 and NR 316L and NR 361. Grade of C+ or higher. Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
