Age of Revolutions

Catalog description

Students take on the identities and victory objectives of real historical figures and attempt to solve the philosophical and practical challenges posed by major world revolutions such as the American Revolution, French Revolution and Haitian Revolution using role immersion gaming pedagogy. Themes include the meaning of liberty, equality and natural rights, justifications for violent resistance and ideal forms of government. Students will use the writings of philosophers like John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau to push for specific historical outcomes through persuasive writing, public speaking and strategic negotiation. Credit cannot be earned in both HI 260 and HI 220. Offered: Spring.
