How to Read a Literary Genre

Catalog description

In this topics course, students will learn critical reading skills and theoretical approaches to reading a select literary genre (for example: graphic novels, ghost stories, fairytales, travel writing, poetry, memoir). Students will analyze representative texts within that literary genre, using cultural and theoretical frameworks to understand how the genre has evolved over time. Students will study the forms, styles, and themes within the literary genre, write arguments based on literary analysis and research, and develop creative responses within the genre's conventions.
