This course offers an in-depth introduction to the fundamental concepts of computer networks and data communication, with a focus on staying current in today's rapidly evolving technology landscape. Students will explore core theories, protocols, and standards that form the backbone of modern networking, including a detailed study of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model and the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite. Through hands-on activities and real-world applications, students will learn to effectively use networking terminology and concepts to describe how software applications and network services communicate. The course emphasizes practical skills such as reading and analyzing network traces to monitor communications, diagnose issues, and evaluate protocols. Additionally, students will examine various networking topologies and architectures, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how networks are designed and operate. To ensure students are prepared for the ever-changing technology landscape, this course integrates the latest advancements in networking technology, providing insights into emerging trends and innovations.
