Environmental Criminology

Catalog description

An examination of crimes that harm natural resources, ecosystems, and communities, including illegal poaching, mining, pollution, deforestation, and violations of national and international environmental laws. Students explore the causes, consequences, and prevention of environmental crimes through criminological theory, policy analysis, and international regulations. The course emphasizes the application of criminological principles to real-world environmental challenges, including enforcement strategies, policy interventions, and international governance. Prerequisite: Grade of B or higher in CRIM 501, Offered: Fall, Spring.
