Crime Analysis and Mapping

Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to crime analysis and crime mapping and examines techniques used to study crime and disorder patterns faced by law enforcement agencies today. The course will discuss the theory, data collection methods, analysis techniques, technology, statistics, and dissemination products used by crime analysts as well as the history of and career opportunities in crime analysis. Students will learn how to use at least two crime analysis and mapping software applications during the course of the semester. A capstone project for the course involves conducting a crime analysis and mapping project for a Vermont criminal justice agency. Credit will be earned once between CJ 444 and CRIM 444. Prerequisite: CRIM 101 or CJ 201. Grade of C or higher. Offered: Annually
