Catalog description

This course offers a thorough examination of American Policing. The course will explore the history and development of police forces in the United States, examining their structure, culture and how officers navigate complex situations through a combination of lectures, discussions, case studies and scenarios. In this course students will compare American models with those used in other democracies, gaining a broader perspective on the various approaches to law enforcement and the factors that influence them. This course will hone critical thinking skills as the student navigates the complexities of law enforcement in a democratic society. Students can further their understanding by participating in an optional ride-along program with a local police agency when offered. Prerequisite: Grade of C, or higher in CJ 101. Offered: Fall, Spring.
