Catalog description
A survey of microbiology geared toward students with prior coursework in genetics or cell biology with emphasis on microorganisms of medical and environmental significance. Covers fundamentals of microbial structure, physiology, molecular genetics, ecology, evolution and impact on humans. Current topics in microbiology are explored through scientific literature and media. 4 Credits: 3 Lecture and 2 Lab hours BI220L. The final grade for the lab will be calculated with the lecture section. Cannot also earn credit for BI 220, i.e. mutually exclusive. Prerequisite: Grade of D- or higher in BI 226 Cell Biology or BI 330 Genetics. Corequisite: BI 220L. Offered: Spring every other year.
