Northwest Florida State College · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
This course is designed to acquaint students with the broad sweep of human history from the appearance of Homo sapiens until the beginning of the modern era, approximately 1500 A.D. As a world civilizations course, it will examine patterns, trends, and processes at the transnational and global level, rather than focusing chronologically on any particular nation or civilization. It explores fundamental questions in the human experience, relying on the Great Books of Western Civilization, examining formative events in history, and seeks to teach the value of these important texts.
