Catalog description

A continuing study of the fundamentals of basic musicianship, music notation, rhythms, musical structures, basic and advanced harmonic structures including secondary chords, polyphonic composition and keyboard work. This course is a continuing study of analytical models used for musical compositions of the 17th & 18th centuries.  Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and the American democracy.
