Catalog description

This course is designed for those Public Safety Telecommunicators that are currently employed by public safety organizations, or for those that are interested in a career in public safety telecommunications within the State of Florida. This PST course covers the basics skills, knowledge, and abilities every successful public safety Telecommunicators needs to meet the demands of this critical work. Building on foundational topics such as communication skills, call taking and radio techniques, the PST course incorporates the most up-to-date information on technology and work-related issues in Public Safety Communications Centers. Topics include NextGen 9-1-1, emerging technologies, continuing education and liability. Participants will engage in online class work and will acquire the skills necessary for receiving and dispatching functions related to 911 calls. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be approved to take the state exam for Certification as a Florida Public Safety Telecommunicator.
