American Literature: 1865 - Present

Catalog description

A course in American Literature from Civil War to present. This course may be used for Humanities credit. Course readings will be derived from the western canon. In addition and to the extent possible, the course will provide instruction on the historical background and philosophical foundation of western civilization and American democracy. This course offers an introduction to classical works in American literature, prose and poetry, from 1865 to present. Course must emphasize those foundational principles found in literature during this time period that have contributed to the modern American democracy.
