Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Catalog description

GIS is a computer-based software that uses geographic data to solve real-world problems. The software can be applied to various disciplines including real estate, marketing, church planting, education, medicine, social justice, and wildlife conservation. This course introduces students to the broad applications of GIS. Lectures will cover the concepts, principles, and applications of GIS and mapping. During labs, students will collect, enter, store, analyze and communicate geographic data in ArcGIS (a common GIS program). The final project requires students to analyze and communicate a real-world problem in their discipline using GIS. Concurrent: SCIE 2230 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory except by instructor permission
