Catalog description

This course introduces the mathematical foundations essential for computer science and algorithm design. Students will explore topics including linear algebra, discreet mathematics, logic and set theory, binary computation, optimization techniques, probability distributions, Bayesian networks, Markov chains, and cryptography fundamentals. The curriculum emphasizes “mathematical maturity”—the ability to read and write valid arguments—and connects these abstract concepts directly to computer science applications such as database design, network routing, and algorithmic efficiency. Prerequisite: College-level statistics, MATH 1313 - Introduction to Statistics , and/or MATH 1203 - Pre-Calculus , pre-calculus course or placement exam
