Introduction to Data Management

Catalog description

This course provides a practical foundation in data management with an emphasis on relational database systems. Students learn to design relational schemas, construct SQL queries, and generate reports that support real-world decision-making. Topics include conceptual data modeling, normalization, cardinality, transactions, backup and recovery strategies, and performance considerations. The course also explores ethical management and compliance, the legal implications of collecting and protecting personally identifiable information (PII), and secure and sustainable database design. Through hands-on projects, students will gain experience in building reliable, scalable, and ethically sound data systems. (Course fee required)
