Survey of US History

Catalog description

This course provides an overview of the history of the American nation, from its founding up to the 21st century. It covers exploration and colonization, the fight for independence, the fight over slavery, the Civil War, industrialization, the Great Depression, World War II, Vietnam, and 9/11. Aside from the usual politics, culture, economics, and wars, this course explores the changing role of religion in the private and public life of the country in light of a growing diversity of practices and a rising tide of secularism. (This course is also offered through our concurrent credit program.)
