Catalog description
A survey of the history of the civilization of the West with specific reference to one of its constituent or pervasive themes, such as religion, order vs. freedom, warfare, philosophy, the role of the state, cultural conflict and combinations, empire, artistic expression, Greco-Roman influence, geography, democracy, Christendom, etc. Focused attention on a single theme will allow the wide chronological span of the course to gather focus even as it helps students engage with a central influential topic or idea in the construction of the West. Prerequisite: Acceptance in the Honors Program
