Human-Centered Design Research for Discovery & Usability

Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of research techniques applied throughout the design lifecycle. Students will learn to apply qualitative research approaches for generative research insights to discover requirements and frame user needs from a human-centered perspective. The course will also teach students a set of ethnographic and quantitative methods for evaluating user experiences. This practical, hands-on course will build on psychology, communication, and design thinking to lay a foundation for students who are pursuing careers designing, evaluating, or marketing products for people. Prerequisite: HCDE 2183 - Introduction to Design Thinking Concurrent: HCDE 4601 - Design Research Lab
