Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of trail planning and design, focusing on user experience, facility management, project planning, and preparation skills. Students will learn the principles and best practices required to create safe, enjoyable, and sustainable trails for various user groups. Trail Planning and Design focuses on the essential principles and techniques involved in the planning, layout, and design of sustainable and user-friendly trail systems. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to create well-designed trails that cater to diverse user needs while preserving the natural environment and cultural heritage. Key topics covered will be sustainable trail design, trail signage and wayfinding, integrating natural and interpretive elements, universal design and ADA accessibility, adaptive trails, user experience, facility management, permitting, corridor planning, land use plan alignment, stakeholder engagement, safety and risk management, and legal and regulatory considerations.
