Essentials of Paramedic to RN role transition facilitates the transition of the Paramedic to a level consistent with that of the RN student. The content of the course builds on a core of common knowledge/skills identified from previous nursing education and introduces the Paramedic to the philosophy and organizing structure of the NWACC Nursing Program and the roles and competencies of the Associate Degree RN. Emphasis is placed on utilization of the nursing process, application of infection control measures, principles of teaching and learning, and documentation/informatics. This course integrates nursing concepts necessary for safe, quality, patient-centered nursing care to a diverse patient population with acute and/or chronic illnesses. This care includes integrating legal and ethical responsibilities, cultural diversity, and therapeutic communication by the nurse. This course introduces the art of caring when interacting with patients and collaborating with members of the inter-professional team. The course will further assist the student with utilizing clinical reasoning/nursing judgment and the importance of research and application of evidence-based nursing practice. This course will require an in-person clinical component conducted by NWACC nursing faculty.
