Catalog description
students practice multiple reading comprehension strategies, such as skimming and scanning, using context to determine vocabulary meaning, and annotating texts. Students also develop word-building and dictionary skills and create a plan for vocabulary acquisition. Students will write basic essays 4-5 paragraphs in length with a clear thesis, topic sentences, and transitions with basic essay organization (introduction, body, and conclusion). (Prerequisite: TOEFL (pbt) = 400-449 or TOEFL (ibt) = 32-44 or IELTS 4.0-5.0 or DUOL = 65-74 or MEPT = 35-44 or CEFR = 31-50; Corequisite: 10-863-204, IEP Int Listening/Speaking 1)
