Catalog description

3 hours (3;0;0). Study of methods and techniques for teaching English as a second language in elementary and secondary schools, including language development techniques and materials for students at different levels of English proficiency. The course helps students develop instructional strategies aligned with state English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These strategies leverage the existing language skills and content knowledge of English Language Learners or emergent bilingual students to support both language and academic development. Students must complete EDBE 3470/3480 and be admitted to the teacher certification program. Course Typically Offered: Fall and Spring.
