Catalog description

3 hours. This course introduces students to the concepts, history, philosophy, functions, and development of social welfare, social welfare institutions, and social policy within the United States. The course is also designed to prepare students to examine social problems and gain an understanding of the political and organizational processes used to influence policy formulation and identify gaps in current programming for achieving social and economic justice. Prerequisite(s): SOWK 2311. Corequisite(s): SOWK 3333, SOWK 4323, SOWK 4343. Course typically offered: Fall and Spring.
