Medicolegal Death Investigations

(4360) 3 hours. This course explores the principles, procedures, and standards of medicolegal death investigations. Students learn how forensic investigators respond to and examine death scenes, determine the manner and cause of death, and work collaboratively with pathologists, law enforcement, and other professionals. Topics include scene assessment, body examination, evidence recognition, postmortem changes, and documentation. Emphasis is placed on nationally recognized best practices, including those from OSAC, with a focus on professionalism, interagency coordination, and legal considerations. Prerequisites: Student must be pursuing a Criminal Justice B.S. Course Typically Offered: Fall.
