Bloodstain Pattern Analysis

(3331) 3 hours. This course introduces the scientific principles, methods, and limitations of bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) in forensic investigations. Students learn to identify, document, and analyze bloodstain patterns to evaluate the physical events that may have caused them. Topics include pattern classification, stain characteristics, scene documentation, experimental design, and report writing. Emphasis is placed on the application of the scientific method, recognition of pattern types, contextual information, and reproducibility of findings. Prerequisites: Student must be pursuing Criminal Justice B.S. Course Typically Offered: Fall.
