Beef Production Medicine

Catalog description

This rotation focuses on beef cattle production medicine and is primarily designed for students interested in farm animal practice. Through multiple field visits, students will gain hands-on experience and exposure to real-world cases involving reproduction, preventive medicine, nutrition, genetics, environment, marketing, and record keeping. The overarching goal is to help students understand the veterinarian's role as a key asset in beef operations. By the end of the course, students will be able to identify critical points in beef production systems and integrate farm evaluations into herd management. This rotation also provides opportunities to collaborate with private veterinarians, consultants, and extension specialists, and to engage with key industry partners such as the North Carolina Cattlemen's Association and the Beef Quality Assurance program.
