Atmospheric dynamics: the equation of motion on a rotating earth; component equations in Cartesian, polar-sphericaland pressure coordinates. Scale analysis and simplifications. Cases of horizontal flow: geostrophic and gradient wind, ageostrophy and acceleration; thermal wind and vorticity.
