Catalog description

This is the first of two practicum experiences that enable students to apply bachelor’s level coursework in a generalist practice setting. The seminar will focus on each student’s performance as they demonstrate social work competency behaviors in a human service setting. The practicum experience is designed to facilitate professional development as well as to integrate social work skills, knowledge, and values. Students will integrate coursework and practice to transition from student to entry-level social work professionals. Each student will engage in generalist practice activities that will allow them to demonstrate cultural humility, advocate for human rights, make ethical decisions, use supervision effectively, engage in policy and research, and the planned change process. Each student will complete a minimum of 16 hours per week in an assigned supervised field setting. Successful completion of a minimum of 200 clock hours is required at the end of the semester to receive a passing grade. Social work majors must complete this course with a minimum of grade C. Pass/Fail basis. PREREQ: SWK 3800, 3810, 3900, and 4450 COREQ: SWK 3850, SWK 3910
