Social Justice and Practice Ethics

Catalog description

Students will develop an understanding of social and economic justice along with ethical social work decision making by exploring and applying ethics, values, policies and organizational theories. Students will integrate theory and practice by reviewing ethical dilemmas, value conflicts, and social injustices related to social work practice and populations. A central focus of this course is the examination and analysis of the relationship between social forces (e.g. politics, social inequities, socioeconomic status) and populations at risk. The course enables students to implement a plan for advocacy and empowerment for the betterment of current delivery systems and current social policy issues. This course challenges social work students to Explore and evaluate how aspects of social service delivery systems can be influenced by cultural identity, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, and age. Social work majors must complete this course with a minimum of grade C. PREREQ: SWK 3850, 3910, 4900 COREQ: SWK 4800 and 4910
