Catalog description
This course explores key factors influencing children’s literacy development. Instruction begins with developing candidates’ knowledge of the foundations of early literacy instruction for the emergent reader, such as explicit and systematic instruction and assessment practices to support instruction and intervention in oral language, concepts of print, phonological and phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, phonics, fluency and comprehension. Field Experience Required. PREREQ: RDG 2000; Admission to Teacher Education Program
