Catalog description
Introduction to basic AC and DC circuit behavior including Ohm’s law, Kirchoff’s laws and Thevenin/Norton equivalents; circuits with resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, LEDs, LDs; rectifier circuits; first order RC, RL, RLC circuits; periodic signals in time and frequency domains, steady state and transient analysis, instantaneous, real and apparent power; DC and RMS value; magnitude and power spectra, transistors, and operational amplifier circuits. Some topics from analog signal processing systems will be chosen from: amplification, clipping, filtering, addition, multiplication, and AM modulation. Weekly hardware laboratory utilizing a variety of power supplies, digital multimeters, function generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and lock-in amplifiers. PREREQ: C- or better in PHY 2000, 2060 2010, 2070; MAT 2210, 2220; MAT 3310 or PHY 3360.
