This concept-based course provides a comprehensive introduction for Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) students to the foundational principles and practices of primary care across the adult lifespan. The curriculum is designed to integrate care considerations for pediatric, women’s health, and geriatric populations, reflecting the broad scope of the FNP role. Emphasis is placed on the delivery of holistic, patient-centered care within diverse communities and healthcare settings. Students will explore key aspects of health promotion and disease prevention, as well as the assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of commonly encountered acute and chronic health conditions in the primary care environment. The course emphasizes critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and the application of current clinical guidelines to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective care. Throughout the course, students will strengthen their ability to practice within an interprofessional team, enhancing communication and collaborative decision-making with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Cultural humility, health equity, and ethical practice are woven throughout the curriculum, along with an emphasis on social determinants of health, health disparities, and the unique needs of diverse populations. By the end of the course, students will have developed the foundational clinical knowledge and skills necessary to begin providing comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, preparing them for further clinical immersion and advanced practice in the FNP role.
