Introduction to Public/Population Health

This course offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamental concepts and practices in rural public health within the United States. Students will investigate the unique health challenges faced by rural communities, including limited access to healthcare services, socioeconomic disparities, and the impact of environmental factors. Key topics include, historical context and evolution of rural public health, identification of health disparities and barriers to care, strategies for community engagement and mobilization, innovative solutions such as telehealth and mobile clinics and evaluation of effective public health interventions in rural settings. Through lectures, case studies, and interactive projects, students will gain practical skills to assess public health needs and develop targeted strategies to improve health outcomes in rural populations.
